KPAOL - Kaiser Permanente Apply Online has arrived. Kaiser Permanente California launched the new Online Application for KPIF (Kaiser Permanente Individuals and Families) on October 24th, 2008. Some of those applying for Kaiser Permanente coverage using the KPAOL system soon after the launch faced difficulties. Customer feedback up to this point has been neutral or negative. Kaiser Permanente is working to improve the online application and make it more user-friendly. Many enrollees are not aware of the benefits of KPAOL and the improvements made in comparison with the previous electronic enrollment forms.

New Online Application Includes Additional Medical Questions

The new KPAOL application, as well as the new Kaiser Paper Application, includes more than double the amount of health-related questions. The previous enrollment forms had 13 medical questions and the new application now has 29.

KPAOL Speeds up Processing of Applications

This new format is a great improvement for Kaiser Permanente underwriters. KPAOL allows Kaiser Permanente to collect an increased amount of information from enrollees. In addition to there being 16 more medical questions, there is also increased functionality that allows the online application to dig deeper into the questions. Applicants who answer a question with a "Yes" indicating they have a pre-existing health condition, will be given additional questions to help underwriters determine the level of severity of the condition. In the past Kaiser applicants with pre-existing health conditions had to wait until they were sent these follow up questions which delayed the application process. Also, underwriters had to do more detective work in order to make the decision whether to approve or deny the application.

Kaiser Online Enrollment Now Offers Two Effective Dates

Before October 24^th, those applying for Kaiser Permanente membership were only given the option to enroll for their coverage to start on the 1st of the month. Now, with the new KPAOL system, applicants may choose a 1st of the month or a 15^th of the month effective date. The deadline for the 1^st of the month remains the 23^rd of the prior month, and the deadline for the 15^th of the month is the 8^th of the same month.

Kaiser Permanente Brokers Using KPAOL Can Offer Clients More Support

Kaiser Permanente Apply Online includes a back office for health insurance brokers. This software allows agents to send quotes to their clients by email. They can begin an application for a client over the phone. Also, brokers can check a client's status online, so they are able to advise their customers as to the status of an application without having to call Kaiser Broker Services.
